Industry, Trade, and Tourism

There's a great deal to know about Georgia's ITT economy, but it's safe to say that each department - Industry, Trade, and Tourism - is thriving, even in these tight times. Much of that can be attributed to the state's natural beauty and appeal, which brings tourists and businesses looking for a more enjoyable lifestyle. But it's also because of Atlanta and the bevy of higher educational facilities (Georgia Tech, University of Georgia, Emory University, etc.) that encourages research, learning, and execution in business.

Georgia Industries

Georgia's six most historically prominent industries - automotive, agriculture, food processing, tourism, metal fabrication, and plastics - remain at the forefront of the state's solid infrastructure, but recently there has been a wealth of new industry popping up around the beautiful state. Most notably, Georgia has seen a great deal of growth in the biosciences industry, and the technology industry is beginning to boom out of Atlanta, the state's cultural hub.

On the technology front, Georgia's Yamacraw project - an economic development initiative designed to make the state a world leader in broadband communication systems, devices and chips - has seen a great deal of early success, and the Georgia Research Alliance has been instrumental in creating jobs for the state's citizens.

Georgia Trade

Georgia's international trade industry benefits from the fact that the state can lay claim to Atlanta, the largest city in America's southeast region and home to Hartsfield International Airport, largely considered the world's busiest passenger airport.

Georgia also benefits from the fact that the state has very low taxes, a balanced budget requirement, and an AAA Bond Rating from Standard & Poor's. It's the only state with that particular rating.

In total, 44 countries have different consular, trade, or chamber of commerce offices in Georgia, and 13 international banks have set up businesses in the state.

Georgia is home to a number of international companies, including Coca-Cola, CNN, Home Depot, Philips, Six Continents Hotels, UPS, CARE, The American Cancer Society, AGCO, Daewoo, Porsche North America, and Triumph Motorcycles.

Georgia Tourism

Like most states in the southeastern region of America, Georgia's tourism is top of the line, a balanced mixture of beach life and mountains, golf courses and history. At first glance, the top tourist attractions are obvious: the Appalachian Mountains to the west, beaches like Tybee Island along the coast, Augusta National Golf Club, Savannah's deep history, and Atlanta's nightlife. There's also the University of Georgia and the city of Athens if you're looking to catch some of Georgia's finest musical groups.
