Georgia Public Safety Training Center
Established in 1991 by the Georgia Board of Public Safety, the Georgia Public Safety Center was built with the intention of facilitating both the Georgia Police Academy and the Georgia Fire Academy in one place. Construction began, and in 1996 then Governor Zell Miller issued an order that transferred responsibility for administration, management and funding of Peace Officer Training contracts with the two academies as well as the Georgia Sheriffs' Association. Today, the Center provides over 5,000 training programs to more than 95,000 of Georgia's public safety officials.
The GPSTC has 179 full-time employees that operate under the watchful eye of Director Dale Mann. Half of that 179 carries out duties that include Administrative Services, Basic Training, Support Services, Technical Services, and Instructional Services. The other half is often classified as law enforcement, corrections, fire service, coroners, rescue and emergency service personnel. Their mission statement is as follows:
We are here to foster professionalism, competency and safety
within the ranks of the Georgia's Public Safety Community by developing,
delivering, facilitating, and supporting training which exceeds our customer's
needs.
