Funding Sources for Georgia Childcare
The Georgia Child Care Council receives several calls a day requesting sources of financial aid for child care programs. This list of possible sources of aid was developed in response to those calls and should make finding funding for your childcare program easier.
Child Care and Development Funds
These funds may be given to child care programs that care for 19 or more children. They can be used to improve programs for children with disabilities and technical assistance. They may not be used to buy land or buildings. Around $6.5 million is available every year. For more information call (404) 679-4880.
The Georgia Association for Young Children
The GAYC may administer mini-grants for 2000-2001. Grants may go to programs that serve children three years of age and younger from low-income families. For more information call (404) 222-0014.
T.E.A.C.H.® Early Childhood in Georgia Scholarship Program
This program enables child care providers to earn a child development diploma or degree. Participants must work at least 30 hours a week in a licensed child care facility. For more information call (404) 222-0014.
The Early Childhood Educators INCENTIVE$ Program
The INCENTIVE$ program is part of Georgia's Early Learning Initiative. It gives teachers who teach children under five rewards for staying on the job. Both center-based and family care teachers are eligible. For more information call (770) 339-5199.
Georgia School Age Care Association
GSACA gives mini-grants to those who participate in the CSACA Roadshow. They go to school age care providers to help train staff become accredited. For more information call (404) 373-7414.
Nonprofit Child Care Project
10 to 20 new preschool or school-age programs that need additional help to finish their start-ups may receive mini grants from this fund. For more information call (404) 479-4182.
Training Scholarships for Child Care Providers
Child care providers who wish to train at DHR approved training programs may receive scholarships from this fund. For more information call (770) 642-6722.
The HOPE Scholarship Program
Forgivable loans and grants for students who are attending college or technical schools and Georgia may be sought through this program. For more information call (770) 724-9030.
Georgia Pre-Kindergarten Program
Run by the Office of School Readiness, this program provides money to give four year old children educational experiences. Many different types of programs may be eligible. For more information call (404) 656-5957.
Georgia Children and Elderly Fund
Grants from this fund are available through the Children's Trust Fund Commission. They are available to programs that serve preschool children with disabilities. The total amount available varies from year to year. For more information call (404) 206-6043.
Head Start Program of Georgia
This program provides federal funds to child development programs that cater to low-income families. These funds are targeted towards programs that serve three and four year olds. For more information call (404) 656-5957.
Subsidy Moneys
Subsidy moneys that allow low-income families to send their child to child care may be obtained through the Division of Family and Children Services. For more information please contact your county's DFACS office.
Georgia's Reading Challenge Project
Literacy programs that meet for a minimum of four hours per week with children in 4th through 8th grade may receive funds from this project. For more information call (404) 657-7062.
