State Bar of Georgia - Family Law Section
The State Bar of Georgia offers Sections which assist legal professionals with navigating the justice system. Sections focus on specific areas of law and provide information and insight for each specific area of law, and these Sections allow for legal professionals who are practicing and who are interested in the same area of law to group together.
One such Section is the Family Law Section. The Family Law Section focuses on the practice of Family Law, which deals with law procedures such as, divorce, marriages, adoption, child custody, name changes, restraining orders, and paternity. Over 1500 members of Georgia’s State Bar have joined the Family Law Section already. Any legal professional who is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and is interested in family law is eligible to join.
Benefits of Joining the State Bar of Georgia Family Law Section
By joining the Family Law Section, law professionals are able to receive guidance from and an exchange of ideas with other members of the Section.
The Section sponsors, in conjunction with ICLE, two seminars for Continuing Legal Education credit. Family law Institute is held in May, and in the fall, Nuts and Bolts of Family Law is held.
The Section is active in assisting legislators in drafting legislation which affects family law and monitoring what laws are passed.
The Section’s quarterly newsletters provide in-depth articles that focus on family law matters. Examples of topics in past newsletters include, overviews of new appellate cases, interviews with judges, explanation of emerging areas of practice, and updates on newly passed legislation and alterations to the Superior Court Rules affecting family law.
