Completed in 1889, the dome of the Capitol is topped with 23-karat gold mined from Dahlonega, Ga. Housed in the Capitol are both houses of the Georgia State Legislature, the offices of the Governor, Lt. Governor and Secretary of State. Also housed at the capitol is a collection of Confederate flags. The Gold Dome was completed at the time for just under the projuct budget of $1,000,000.
